THE YARDSMEN DINNER SUIT
If ever you receive an invitation to an event that reads ‘Black Tie’ and utter a weary groan, it’s likely that you don’t have the time to place a bespoke order and the thought of hiring something conjures up a high street name that screams poor quality and even worse customer service.
In the past, hiring a dinner suit was often accompanied by an overbearing sense of shame and waste; the depressing journey to the renters, the awkward sizes, the regret at paying hard earned cash for substandard garments. All in all a remarkably unhappy experience. It was with all of this in mind that we decided to set up Yardsmen.
We wanted to offer a high quality hirewear alternative – the opportunity to wear a Savile Row suit for a day, with quality, style and exemplary service as standard.
The majority of functions that require black tie are social and a great number, in our experience, are occasions that can be referred to as ‘social-professional’ - in other words, they are related to workplace and career - with considerable opportunities to make a case for workplace progression and promotion.
In cases such as these, looking the part is incredibly important. Those who carry themselves with confidence convey a sense of natural belonging and tend to progress up the career ladder more swiftly than those blending into the background. If you look like you belong in the boardroom, it probably won’t be too long before you’re there.
Hire a dinner suit from us and you’ll not only get an impeccably tailored garment, made from the finest quality cloth, with Savile Row styling and finishes, but a great fit with the help of our Savile Row trained tailoring consultants.
Our black one button single breasted jackets have the option of either peaked or shawl lapels – peaked are generally considered more formal, shawl more casual – with a grosgrain face. The trousers feature a matching grosgrain stripe down the outside leg, with flat fronts and Savile Row standard side adjusters.
Finish the look with a crisp white dress shirt, with a turn down collar that is not too cutaway, allowing your matt silk bow tie a comfortable ‘seat’. Finally, invest in some patent Oxfords and some black silk socks. If you’re considering the addition of a pocket square, a simple fold of white cotton will do the trick.
The dinner suit may not be worn all that often, but worn well and the effect is nothing less than striking.
